Startups in the 2023 accelerator
The following climate tech start-ups are participating in the 2023 BeStart accelerator programme. The alumni from other years can be found here.
Tibach
Founders: André Evers and Guido Krieger
Product: Combat Japanese Knotweed through freezing. We provide technical solutions to limit the nuisance caused by invasive exotic species.
BeStart goal: Growing as an entrepreneur and networking in the region.

CYCLE-UP
Founder: Jeroen Dijkstra, Remco Krol, Robin Alkema (you see BeStart participants Mayte Leinenga and Hille-Jan Hellema on the picture)
Product: CYCLE-UP: the circular raw material service from Leeuwarden. We believe that waste is the raw material for a better future.
We create a full-service hub where raw materials are transformed into new products with a story. We collect residual streams such as coffee grounds, orange peels, old bread, GFT (biodegradable waste), swill, and residual waste separately from the catering industry in Leeuwarden.
Our partners then process these raw materials into new products that can be sold again through the CYCLE-UP website. The circular hub provides space for circular startups and helps them grow. Affiliated knowledge institutions provide new knowledge about green logistics.
BeStart goal: Finding our place in the value chain of residual streams.

Graphene Pioneer
Founders: Michel de Ruiter
Product: Developing climate-adaptive and lightweight building materials using graphene and nanotechnology. This includes stronger concrete, so less is needed to build the same structures, resulting in lower CO2 emissions and energy-saving concrete.
BeStart goals: We want to create a solid base in the Netherlands and hope that the Netherlands will join the 2D materials revolution.

Reefy
Founders: Jaime Ascencio (Coastal Engineer, Mexico) and Leon Haines (Marine Biologist, Nederland)
Product: Reefy combines water engineering and biology to protect both humans and nature in a changing climate. Currently, we have developed the REB, or Reef Enhancing Breakwater. It consists of giant Lego-like reef blocks weighing 7 tons each, which are stacked underwater to form both storm-resistant coastal protection and an excellent underwater habitat for fish, crabs, oysters, and coral!
BeStart goals: To understand the (Northern) Dutch market through the BeStart network and together with a water authority, harbor, municipality, Wadden Fund, or province, to realize a pilot project in the Wadden Sea.

SoilBeat
Founder: Dirk Westra van Holthe and Debra Aurich
Product: SoilBeat, a SAAS platform for farmers and advisors, optimizes organic and regenerative agriculture with insightful soil and crop data, streamlined collaboration between farmer and advisor, and smart AI-driven diagnoses for the right organic nutrient advice, for healthy soil and resilient crops.
BeStart goal: We strive to make inspiring connections, learn valuable insights, find committed investors, and thus sharpen our proposition and grow SoilBeat.

modAlgae
Founders: Marc van der Maarel, Cindy Semeijn, Alle van Wijk, Mariska van der Hoek
Product: Natural, sustainable, multifunctional algae glycogen that will contribute as an active ingredient to sustainability within – initially – the cosmetics industry! However, due to the structure and origin of the glycogen, there are several potential markets where we can provide added value, such as in food. The unique value lies in the properties and effects of the glycogen and its natural, sustainable origin from microalgae.
BeStart goals: Determine market entry strategy within skincare, networking, scaling up, and growth plan for the coming years.

EVISE
Founders: Dana Ondruskova and Riko Kruit
Product: ChargeRing enables the innovative charging of multiple EVs at a location and in a specific order. By applying AI to the charging needs and available electrical capacity of the network, ChargeRing can charge many more EVs than a traditional charging station by cleverly solving or circumventing the challenges of charging station congestion, network congestion, and logistical planning.
BeStart goals: We would like to be challenged to develop a usable prototype of ChargeRing and create a well-founded business case. Additionally, we hope to get in touch with potential investors through BeStart.

Integer Technologies
Founders: Antoine Post and Pau Brossa Rodriguez
Product: Integer Technologies has developed a hardware and software platform for controlling sustainable installations in small collective systems. Installers can plug and play all equipment, from heat pumps to control valves and sensors. Then, the software takes over: the system can automatically regulate itself and make optimal use of locally generated energy. This means that installing a new system is just as easy and fast as an old-fashioned boiler, while the occupant can enjoy up to 75% lower CO2 emissions and energy costs. Through continuous monitoring and software updates, you always have insight into energy performance and any issues can be resolved more quickly.
BeStart goals: We want to shape our growth strategy and investigate which customers we can best approach for this. Additionally, we would also like to expand our network.

SolarDew
Founders: Alexander van der Kleij, Floris Croon and Frank Croon
Product: SolarDew has developed a new solar desalination technology to produce clean drinking water from seawater, brackish water, and/or contaminated water. Our products are particularly suitable for households and communities around the world that have poor access to clean water and electricity.
BeStart goals: SolarDew is now entering an important phase where we hope to set up a number of demonstration projects by the end of this year. It is therefore a good time to pause, take a closer look at our strategy, and refine it both in the short and long term.

Howart
Founders: Ruben Hillenius
Product: Currently, all floor tiles are being disposed of as rubble after use. We have developed a product innovation that allows us to recover the tile in its original state after use. In short, a circular tile floor concept. The tile can be returned to the industry as a pure raw material stream after use, reused one-to-one in a construction project, or refurbished.
BeStart goals: During the BeStart program, I will be introducing my product to the market for the first time. You only get one chance to do this right, and with the support of the BeStart program, I believe I can increase my chances and impact in the market!
