How EVISE boosts EV charging capacity with multi-plug technology

EVISE’s service originated from the idea that it should be possible tooptimize the capacity of charging infrastructure in order to alleviate netcongestion. Their idea is based on DC (Direct Current) rapid chargingtechnology, but with a twist: what if we designed the charging station in sucha way that it could have more than one plug to serve multiple vehicles overtime, EVISE founder Riko Kruit asked himself. And so, the story began. Soonenough, he found that multiple plugs can actually increase efficiencysignificantly as they expand the number of cars that can be serviced by asingle physical unit.

“Airport long stay parking offers the best example of the added valuethat this charging infrastructure innovation will bring,” Riko says. “AtAmsterdam Schiphol airport, an average of about 20,000 cars of which asignificant number is electric, is sitting in the long stay parking for anaverage of eight days. If offering charging, one charging session per eightdays would be paid for on average. Hence, placing charging infrastructure isn’tanywhere near cost-effective for the airport.”

But—if it’s an option to place a charging station with multiple plugs, the cost-benefit analysis flips. Riko: “With our technology, partners are ableto place just one charging station to service multiple cars. Their investmentis relatively small and yet, they’re able to service multiple cars and increasecharging capacity by spreading their charging over time. This is significantprogress as compared to traditional charging infrastructure.”

A nice bonus

“Our charging system requires a far less powerful connection to in factcharge a greater amount of vehicles. What’s not to love!” Riko underscores theinnovative character of EVISE’s concept. An additional advantage is the factthat this decreases footprint immediately and, also, it partly alleviates thechallenge of net congestion.

“In the end, we all want to leave the planet healthy and thriving to ourchildren, which is why we are happy to contribute. And of course, if we’re ableto make a living out of it, it’s a nice bonus,” according to Riko.

Wild ideas

Evise participated in the 2023 BeStart program, which proved to be veryhelpful to them: “What’s great about BeStart is that you team up with a bunchof experts that encourage you to actually get off the couch and start workingon turning your idea into a reality. We felt so inspired and motivated to jumpinto action and to keep going,” Riko says.

Also, Riko enjoyed meeting likeminded participants in the program andbeing able to share insights and experiences. Riko: “Being connected all of asudden to a group of young entrepreneurs with wild ideas was really fun. Also,it offered me valuable insights into how other people cope and solve issues.Sometimes, they would go about a certain issue in an entirely different waythan I would have. It was actually really valuable to me to witness. It gave mefresh new thoughts about my own behavior and coping strategies.”
